When babies are born, their eyesight is not yet fully developed. At birth, a baby’s retina is not fully developed. A newborn retina can only detect large contrasts between light and dark, or black and white.
Our book is designed to aid in the development of newborns eyesight aged between 0-9 months.
Black and white high contrast images can help to develop
- Both eyes working in tandem
- Eyesight strength
- Neck muscles/muscle imbalance
- Aid in teaching babies to roll over on both sides.
Combined with the cognitive element, are the cultural elements of our book.
The images in our book are native and natural to Aotearoa and te ao maaori. Not only are our babies developing their eyesight, the tools they are using to do so are natural to who they are, naturally affirming their identity even as it is being discovered by them and us!
